Lighting changes how a room feels more than almost anything else, and it is one of the most common reasons people call an electrician. New homeowners want to replace builder fittings. Renovations bring statement chandeliers and spotlights. And in many Dubai homes, LED spotlights fail one by one, dimmers buzz, and bathroom lights trip the power. Light installation and repair in Dubai covers all of it, and doing it properly is as much about secure fixing and good connections as it is about the fitting itself.
This page covers the types of lighting we install, how heavy fittings are supported, the most common lighting faults and their causes, outdoor and bathroom lighting, and how to choose fittings that last in the Dubai climate.
| Light type | Typical use | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Ceiling and flush lights | Bedrooms, corridors, utility areas | Simple swap if the existing point is in the right place |
| LED spotlights (downlights) | Living areas, kitchens, bathrooms | Ceiling void depth, driver location, heat, spacing |
| Chandeliers | Majlis, dining rooms, entrance halls | Weight, ceiling fixing, height, assembly time |
| Pendants | Kitchen islands, dining tables | Drop height, alignment, multiple pendants on one switch |
| LED strip lighting | Coves, cabinets, mirrors, stairs | Drivers, voltage drop, ventilation, access |
| Wall lights | Bedrooms, stairs, exteriors | New cable routes may be needed |
| Outdoor lighting | Gardens, facades, gates, pools | Weather resistance, RCD protection, cable routes |
A chandelier can weigh many kilograms, and Dubai homes often have gypsum false ceilings that cannot hold that weight on their own. Before installing, the electrician checks what is above the ceiling. Heavy fittings are fixed to the concrete slab or a suitable structural support using proper anchors and, where needed, a threaded rod or bracket through the false ceiling. The fitting should never hang from the electrical cable or the ceiling board alone. Large chandeliers often need two people and some assembly time, so let us know the size and weight when you book.
For new lights, positions, fixings and switching are agreed. For faulty lights, the electrician checks the bulb, driver, fitting, switch and circuit.
The lighting circuit is switched off at the board and confirmed dead before any work.
The ceiling material and fixing point are checked, so heavy fittings are supported securely.
The fitting is assembled, connected with proper connectors and earth where required, or the faulty part is replaced.
The light is tested with its switch or dimmer, and the circuit is checked.
Packaging, old fittings and dust are removed, and the area is cleaned.
Flickering spotlights are one of the most common lighting complaints. The usual causes are:
The electrician tests to find which it is. Replacing bulbs alone often does not solve it, and can waste money on new bulbs that flicker just like the old ones.
Heat is the main reason. Ceiling voids, especially on top floors and under roofs, get very hot in summer, and LED drivers and fittings do not like heat. Fittings packed tightly into insulation, cheap drivers with no ventilation and spotlights fitted too close together all shorten their life. When replacing failed spotlights, we look at the driver, its position and the ventilation, not just the bulb, so the replacements last longer.
Buzzing usually comes from a dimmer designed for older bulbs being used with LEDs, or from a dimmer loaded beyond or below its rating. It can also come from the bulbs or drivers themselves. Swapping to an LED-compatible dimmer and matching the bulbs to it usually solves both the buzzing and any flicker. A dimmer that feels hot or smells should be switched off and checked.
Steam and splashes get into fittings that are not designed for wet areas, causing current to leak to earth and the RCD to trip. Lights above or near showers and baths need fittings rated for that position, with sealed bodies and suitable protection. A leak from an upstairs bathroom or AC drain dripping into a ceiling light causes the same problem. We replace unsuitable fittings with ones designed for the location, and deal with any leak first.
Garden, facade, gate and pool lighting live in sun, dust and occasional rain. Fittings need to be weather resistant, cables suitable for outdoor or buried runs, and circuits protected by an RCD. We install and repair garden spike lights, wall lights, bollards, step lights and floodlights, and can add timers or sensors so they switch on and off automatically. Cracked covers, water inside fittings and corroded terminals are the most common outdoor repairs.
Yes. Strip lighting in ceiling coves, under kitchen cabinets, behind mirrors and along stairs adds a lot to a room. It needs a suitable driver placed where it can be reached and kept cool, correct cable sizing to avoid dimming at the far end of long runs, and neat connections. Many strip lighting failures come from drivers hidden in sealed spaces with no ventilation, which overheat and fail.
Yes. Adding a light where there was none, or moving one to suit a new furniture layout, means running a new cable from the lighting circuit to the new position and, if needed, adding a switch. In false ceilings, this is usually straightforward. In solid concrete ceilings, it may involve surface conduit or trunking. We explain the options before starting.
Most customers choose their own decorative fittings, and we install them. For functional items such as spotlights, drivers, dimmers and outdoor fittings, we can advise on suitable products and source them if you prefer. Have your fittings unpacked and checked before the visit, so any missing parts are spotted early.
Yes. Shops, salons, offices and restaurants book us for spotlight and track lighting repairs, panel light replacements, display lighting and signage power. Work is scheduled outside trading hours where possible, and areas below are protected and kept safe.
Swapping a simple ceiling light usually takes under an hour. A set of spotlights in a room can take a few hours. Large chandeliers, especially crystal ones that need assembling, can take half a day or more. Outdoor lighting with new cable runs takes longer, depending on the layout.
The climate changes the rules. Ceiling voids under roofs reach temperatures that shorten the life of LED drivers dramatically. Coastal humidity gets into bathroom and balcony fittings. Sand and sun destroy outdoor covers and seals within a few seasons. And many homes have gypsum false ceilings that cannot carry heavy fittings on their own. Light installation and repair in Dubai has to account for all of this, which is why choosing the right fitting and fixing it properly matters more here than in milder places.
Good lighting usually combines three layers. General lighting, such as spotlights or a central fitting, lights the whole room. Task lighting, such as pendants over a kitchen island or reading lights by a bed, lights specific activities. Accent lighting, such as strip lights in coves or wall lights, adds atmosphere. Planning which switch controls which layer, and adding dimmers where they make sense, makes a big difference to how a room feels in the evening. Our electricians can talk through options with you before installing.
LED bulbs come in different colour temperatures. Warm white, around 2700 to 3000K, gives a soft, yellowish light that suits bedrooms, living rooms and majlis areas. Neutral white, around 4000K, suits kitchens, bathrooms and home offices where you need clearer light. Cool daylight, 5000K and above, is mostly used in garages, utility areas and commercial spaces. Mixing colour temperatures in one room usually looks uneven, so it is worth choosing one and sticking to it.
Spotlights in gypsum ceilings are held by spring clips, and pulling them out carelessly can crack the edges of the hole. Replacements also need to match the cut-out size, or the hole needs adjusting. Our electricians remove fittings carefully, check the cut-out size, and choose replacements that fit cleanly. Where old holes are the wrong size, adapters or neat repairs are used so the ceiling still looks tidy.
A faint glow from LED bulbs when switched off is common and usually caused by small currents passing through illuminated switches, smart switches or long cable runs. Lights that turn on by themselves often point to a faulty smart switch, timer or sensor, or a wiring error. The electrician checks the switch type and wiring and can fit a suitable component to stop it.
Yes. Smart switches, dimmers and bulbs let you control lights from your phone, set schedules or use voice control. Many smart switches need a neutral wire at the switch, which older installations may not have, so we check before you buy. We install the hardware and make sure it works; app setup and linking to your home system is usually quick once the switch is in.
Renovations are the ideal time to plan lighting properly. Before the ceiling goes up, cable routes, spotlight positions, chandelier supports and driver locations can all be set out. Once finishes are complete, the fittings are installed and tested. Bringing an electrician in early avoids the common problem of a beautiful ceiling with nowhere strong enough to hang the chandelier.
Any of these means switching the light off, ideally at the breaker, and having it checked before using it again.
Entrance halls, stairwells and double-height living rooms often have the most impressive fittings and the hardest access. Changing a bulb up there can be dangerous on a household ladder. We bring suitable access equipment, set it up safely on stairs and landings, and protect walls and balustrades. If the fitting is hard to reach, it is worth choosing long-life LEDs and drivers so access is needed less often.
We repair the electrical supply to garden, facade and gate lighting, and the land-side connections for pool lighting. Pool lights themselves sit under water and often need a pool specialist for the fitting and seal. Where the problem is a tripping RCD, a damaged cable or a failed transformer on the land side, our electricians can trace and fix it.
Yes. Old fittings, packaging and offcuts are taken away unless you want to keep them, for example to reuse in another room. Before removing a fitting, we check whether you want it kept, as some older pieces have sentimental or decorative value.
The electrician shows you each light working, including dimmers and any sensors or timers. You get a short summary on WhatsApp listing the fittings installed or repaired, any drivers or switches replaced and anything else noticed, such as a driver in an unventilated space or a ceiling that needs a better support point for future fittings.
Failed spotlights and broken fittings are among the most common tenant complaints. Replacing a bulb is usually the tenant's job, but failed drivers, faulty fittings and wiring faults normally fall to the landlord, depending on the tenancy contract. We can visit at the tenant's convenience, fix the problem and send both parties a clear summary of what failed and why, which helps avoid disagreements.
Often. When a few spotlights fail in a room, the replacements should match the others in size, colour temperature and beam angle, or the ceiling looks patchy. If the original model is no longer available, it can be better to replace all the spotlights in that room at once so they match, especially if several are already failing. We will show you both options and the price of each.
Because we fix fittings securely, choose drivers and fittings that suit the heat, test every light and dimmer before leaving, and look for the real cause when lights fail instead of just swapping bulbs. And because we also handle AC, plumbing and painting, we can deal with the leak that damaged a light, or the ceiling repair after a fitting is moved, as part of the same job.
The price depends on the type and number of fittings, their weight and assembly time, ceiling height and access, whether new cable runs or switches are needed, and whether we supply the fittings. Repairs depend on whether the fault is a bulb, driver, dimmer, fitting or wiring. You receive the price before work starts, and grouping several lighting jobs on one visit reduces the overall cost.
